Although there is probably a blog out there on all the things that interest me, my experience with blogging outside of this class is quite limited. Prior to this class, I had only read three or four entries by different bloggers, all of which were recommended by people that know the bloggers. One of the blogs was by an American college student serving with the peace corp in Uganda. I found his blog particularly interesting because he highlighted many things about Uganda in a way I had never "seen" them as a Ugandan. For example, chicken cross the road all the time in Uganda but I had never wondered for a day in my life why they did or made the obvious connection to "Why did the chicken cross the road" jokes. As entertaining as his blog(http://wp.me/pYd1x-Z) was, I didn't learn anything new. Needless to say, I didn't follow any of these bloggers past the entry recommended to me.
If I were to follow a blog, first, it would have to be in sync with my interests, and secondly, it would have to be enlightening. I am interested in pediatrics, bones(as in orthopedic surgery), and human medicine in general so I watch House, Bones, and shadow orthopedic surgeons. I like to dance, so I go dancing. I am curious about certain civilization, so I read about their history, as recounted by distinguished authors. I like to travel, so I make erratic plans once in a while and visit a friend living near a beach. Photography and art interest me, so I visit galleries and take lots of "random" pictures. I like the Lakers, so I watch them and I hope to go on a pilgrimage to the staples center at one point. I also like to meet people and be around friends, so I usually host parties or suggest get-togethers. I don't follow any blogs because I am yet to find a reputable blogger writing about any of my interests in a way that teaches me something. I also feel like I would rather be doing the things that interest me as opposed to reading about them from someone, who can be anyone.
