Social Networks: The Rivalry between MySpace, Facebook, and Twitter
In 2006, MySpace was declared the most commonly used social networking site in the United States. It was around this time when social networking sites became a central part of society. MySpace kept its title as the most popular social website until 2008, when Facebook became the new front runner. Since then, Facebook has continued to grow while MySpace has declined in popularity. MySpace, however, has recently added new and improved features to its site, and is hoping to regain its number one spot. Twitter, on the other hand, is an emerging site which has shown a significant increase in users within the past two years. Although it is still far from reaching the popularity of Facebook, Twitter is a vastly growing social networking site, which is attracting more and more users each day. That being said, will Twitter eventually overtake Facebook as the most commonly used social website? Will new ideas from MySpace help spark its revitalization? Regardless, the continuing rivalry between these social networking sites will remain interesting.
