Change in Topic

What I have decided to research on is how Wikipedia gain popularity and growth in the past 8 years and what has been done to regulate online vandalism. Wikipedia is known for it's openess; the community have the ability to edit anything on the site and it is also the community who can detect vandalism and report it. Even though the site is run by the community which brings the question of credibility, Wikipedia has become one of the 10 most visited site. I will research what opposition and support the community expressed after the "flagging" policy of 2009. I would appriciate it if I could get some feedbacks from my peers, such as what I should focus on, any interesting information and such. Thanks!

  1. I think the thing to focus on would be credibility. I think that is such a big thing with wikipedia, especially since it is one of the most viewed websites in the world. This makes it tricky, especially since people are viewing these websites, and mostly use the internet as their internet use. I think that one other thing is that teachers now tell people not to use wikipedia as their source of reference. I think that could be an interesting aspect. If this is going to be a website run by the community, than we as community members need to be aware of all of the false information out there.

    Very interesting topic. Kudos.

  2. You might want to look int Tosh.0 It is a comedy central show that evaluates stupid youtube posts. The opened there Wikipedia page to the public for a day. You should be able to find some good ideas about how quickly people defame something. It was on this seasons episode and the season just started so you should be able to find it easily.
