Hello Annemarie and my fellow global media networkers,
My name is Biribwa Arinaitwe, a Biology major from Syracuse, NY (Go Orange!) and a lifelong supporter of the Uganda cranes(Uganda's national soccer, cricket and rugby teams)! I am taking this course because I am very interested in learning about what factors set the “boundaries”, if any, when it comes to what information is shared and how it is shared in this era of digital media. The case of Julian Assange and wikileaks is perhaps the best example of what an enigma these “boundaries” pose.
I am also quite curious about the dynamics that shape the global flow of information. Why the images and information about Africa, for example are almost always skewed to shape certain perceptions, just like the news in Africa about the western world is skewed to shape false and often inaccurate notions about the West or East for that matter.
In addition to the course objectives as laid out by Annemarie, I really look forward to learning you my fellow global media networkers as well.
Thank you,
Biribwa.
