Hello fellow Media Networkers!
My name is Matthew Soriano and I am a Senior studying Financial Economics at Binghamton University. I have also taken numerous computer science courses while at Binghamton and consider computing to be my number one hobby of interest.
This course represents a departure from the hard number crunching and programming found in computer science and I am looking forward to learning about how society uses and learns about our world through the Internet. Sources like YouTube allow anyone to become an overnight media journalist and share with the world what is happening in their country or region which can play an important role especially in countries where free press is stifled. At the same time I am curious about how such a free form method of journalism is received by the public as it is impossible to check the authenticity of Internet posts that do not have posting standards.
I am very much excited about this class and I look forward to learning with all of you!
